Winds of War - The Viet Nam Era

"Only in winter can you tell which trees are truly green.  Only when the winds of  adversity blow can you tell whether an individual or a country has steadfastness."
John F. Kennedy, 35th President of the United States: 1961-1963

No parades, no marching bands.
No banners catching the breeze.
No cheering crowd to warm your heart,
Welcome home, Welcome home.

No hurrahs, no tears of joy.
No ribbons ‘round the trees.
Time has picked your pockets clean,
And time will tell if you’re welcome home.

School yards, railroad tracks,
Memories laid end to end.
Seems only you have changed,
Welcome home, Welcome home, my friend.

Sidewalks, garden gates,
Back roads you used to roam.
They’re old friends who ought to say
Welcome home, Welcome home.

Life is cruel, and life is strange,
And fate is not ours to know.
But there’s one thing you know for sure,
War is hell, buddy, Welcome home.

Now leave the past behind,
And turn your eyes toward today.
You’ve reached your journey’s end,
Welcome home, Welcome home to stay.

From the soundtrack of the movie "Welcome Home" starring
Kris Kristofferson, sung by Willie Nelson

What Is A Vietnam Veteran?

VietnamDogTags.com

The site developer, Stacey, is a 35-year-old firefighter and paramedic on the West Coast who made a personal journey to Vietnam to learn more about the Vietnam war and country. Happening upon war souvenirs, Stacy was inspired by soldiers' personal artifacts, in particular the dog tags. She has undertaken as her gift to the veterans and their families who made such a sacrifice for our country and freedom, the task of collecting dog tags in order to return as many 'as possible to the rightful owners: The Veterans themselves, or Families of.' She will release these tags neither to the Department of Defense nor to individual collectors. "THESE TAGS ARE NOT FOR SALE" but only for return. A complete list of those tags in her possession is posted as well as a plea to anyone who might have such a souvenir or collectible to please contribute to the cause. In Stacy's words, "This site was created to honor the Veterans of the Vietnam War and the sacrifices you made. You are not forgotten, whether home...or still missing."
